They put some patch on today. Its just a patch not a fix. There is no patching in the world that will bring Old Gurley up to the standards of other roads in the area. It needs to be completely stripped and widened - a new base installed and a couple courses of asphalt. Shoulders are needed perhaps even sidewalks as there are times people are walking or riding bicycles causing hazards for themselves and motorists. This is the 21st century and this old road is no longer capable of handling the traffic required by the development in the area. Bottom line: Old Gurley is a disgrace and a safety hazard - the situation should be addressed by the City and County well beyond the occasional cold patches...Update - the area of disrepair is between Barkwood and Harris Hill Rd.

That is because this issue shows up as being in unincorporated Madison County on the map and they do not use SeeClickFix software. Here is a link to the Madison County Public Works website: https://www.madisoncountyal.gov/departments/public-works

COH_Citizen--The area between Shields Road to Moores Mill is in the City Limits. I have spoken with someone at the City and they did claim ownership of this stretch of road but it is not a priority. With the larger equipment on the road because of the development going on, hopefully it will get a little more attention. Thank you for the information though.

The marked location on the map shows it as being in unincorporated Madison County, you can see the red city limits lines on the map. If it was marked as being in the city limits then it would have automatically gotten assigned to a city department and it did not, that's why no city department has responded. This report needs to be resubmitted with the marker inside the red city limits lines for the City of Huntsville to see it.

If you click "Show on Map" you will see the red marker is right outside the city limits line, the darker area on the map is the city limits and the lighter area is the county.

The issue is on the section of Old Gurley Rd between Shields Rd and Moores Mill all within the city limits... if there is a marker off go look at the road folks! Then lets move the marker cause where the marker is has been resurfaced by the county. It is a city issue plain and simple...

For those hung up on markers that are out of alignment I opened a new issue - Issue ID: 4560980. Just go look at the road - the folks closing and commenting about how the website works must never drive the road or have taken the time to investigate...the road in the stated area is a MESS!

My mother lives off Old Gurley Road so I drive it often, it is deplorable and should have been repaved years ago. The person closing and commenting was letting you know that the marker for this report was marked out of the city's jurisdiction on the map and that they would never view the report until you had it marked in the city's jurisdiction. That's why they never commented on a report that was submitted well over a year and half ago, they didn't even see because it was marked as being in the county and the county doesn't check this site. You have to have it marked in their jurisdiction for them to see it and respond.

OK got it opened a new report with the correct marker location. I know you're trying to be nice and this issue can clearly be observed by anyone just driving down that stretch of road. Maybe they will look at it now but if you read above city officials stated "...I have spoken with someone at the City and they did claim ownership of this stretch of road but it is not a priority..." that is the root cause of the issue here...

Lisa Statum is not a "Verified Official" she is a "Registered User" same as you and I. At any rate, I really hope it gets repaved because I have to drive it a lot.

Well it's been since over 2 years since this was originally reported and much longer than that since the road required complete resurfacing. It is a shame how the city has turned a blind eye towards this issue...

If the City of Huntsville is going to continue to approve development in this area then this stretch of Old Gurley really needs to be addressed. No, I am not a "verified official," but if those people are the only ones that are going to get attention when they post, or get their concern acknowledged, then why even ask the public to report things? I have emails where the condition of this road was reported to the City of Huntsville. I was told that "See, Click Fix" was not the avenue to report this type of concern.

Just do something about the road please! Very large equipment is going up and down this road more and more because of the new car wash, and subdivisions, and other developments in the area.

Maybe if you posted the issue within the City of Huntsville's jurisdiction you would actually get a response on here from them. This issue is posted in unincorporated Madison County and they do not use SeeClickFix or ever check it. They're not subscribed to SeeClickFix as the City of Huntsville is. You guys are confused about how this website works and are using it incorrectly. You're just talking to yourselves.

I'm ok with the closure as there a some number of other reports documenting the poor condition of Old Gurley Rd within the Huntsville city limits. Bottom line; the city needs to step up and overhaul this deplorable stretch of Old Gurley Rd...
