Description

I live at the juxtaposition of Dolly Ridge Road and Squire Lane. In leaving my driveway I have to cross over in front of on coming traffic (on a diagonal) to go east on Dolly Ridge Rd towards Hwy 280. To go west toward the intersection of Dolly and Rocky ridge I have to swing out to the left ( putting me directly in peril of the oncoming West bound traffic) the effect a U Turn going out in the east bound traffic of Dolly. You either get real good at this or suffer the consequences.
I've tried at length to raise awareness to this malady to my Jefferson county commissioners...both Jim Carns and David Carrington...as well as the County Roads and Transportation (Tracy Pate-Interim director...205-325-5154...Email: patet@jccal.org . Dealing with the commissioners has almost made a democrat out of me. I've sent pictures / letters by registered mail and made personal visits. After getting nothing but lip service and a "Al Gore talked down to I guess I'll see how far you can go. We need a new intersection that will afford a true 90 degree entrance and exit. I will petition to to get the right of way removed so I can put my driveway out to Dolly...like it was when the road was built.
Good Luck with the stogie do nothing in our county gov't. The only time they ever do something is when the judges tell them or someone at the Civil Frights District put th'squeeze on for money. Since I have been here the taxes have doubled and still we have no curbing, street lights, gutters or sidewalks. It's a sad case. But I'm sure the lordly upper crust of the county bureaucracy gets their pay raises and pay checks right on time.
