Walk signals? True, but how about the traffic lights themselves not working properly? The city won't be happy until there's a massive accident at this ridiculously dangerous intersection.

This traffic light was install by MassDOT. It does not function as a working traffic lights, but as a blinking red to inform drivers to stop at the intersection before proceeding through.

I recall the lights working as actual lights when they were first installed. Them they became blinking lights soon after.

They were functional as working traffic lights for about a week or two when they were first installed they really need to function as working traffic lights again.

I knew I wasn't imagining things. LOL Those lights were definitely working as regular traffic lights and now they are simply blinking lights, which are NOT sufficient to prevent accidents at that intersection, moving forward.

People coming from Eastern Avenue don't know where to look first. They're more focused on what's coming from their left, from Broadway, heading east. They aren't looking at cars in front of them that are trying to make a left onto Clinton St.

Although my initial concern was the for the lack of functioning crosswalks, as in there are none, this report brought to light an even bigger issue. I shared this report with the community to bring awareness to the issue.

If MassDOT did the install, we need to contact them, apparently. The lights need to be reactivated.

The city of Chelsea should be the one's to contact the mass dot not the tax paying residents who put their lives at risks everyday whether they are walking or driving through that very dangerous intersection.

Here's my thoughts on this intersection...almost NO ONE stops on that blinking red before they head down Eastern Avenue traveling from Revere--and if I stop, the car behind me almost rear-ends me! Drivers don't notice it's a blinking red or they have NO IDEA what a blinking red light means! I

Again, I think Chelsea is saying this is a MassDOT issue. So we may have to contact MassDOT, although I really wish the city would do this for us.

Chelsea DPW is having a contractor look at the control box to determine what is needed to get the PED buttons operational.

The City's contractor has confirmed that the control box no longer functions. We are in the process of getting two prices. The first will be to simply restore the Pedestrian Walk function. The second will be to make the entire intersection fully functional.
Assuming the cost of restoring the Pedestrian Walk function is reasonable, we will work to get that work accomplished this Fiscal Year (meaning before June 30, 2017).
I expect the cost of the latter effort (getting the traffic lights fully functional) will be substantial and not something for which we have the Budget this fiscal year. Instead, it will likely be part of our Capital Improvement Plan for FY18. However, changing that traffic light from its long-standing flashing function to a fully operational light can only be done, per the City Charter, after a vote of the Chelsea Traffic & Parking Commission and approval by the City Council. So, once we have a price and a source of funds, we will need to put the issue before the Traffic & Parking Commission.
Because the solution to this request will take significant time, I am going to close this issue from See Click Fix. But, the City will address as outlined above. Tom Ambrosino

I will say that the lights WERE initially fully operational when first put in. Them they were quickly no longer fully operational. They lasted several weeks at most. It was very odd.

I have a vague memory of them working for a very short time when first installed. (I was Mayor of Revere at the time and reasonably familiar with this intersection.) I heard (but have no firsthand knowledge) that the City's Traffic & Parking Commission had the functioning lights changed to flashing because of adverse traffic impacts. And then sometime later, the control box was struck by a car, rendering the lights unworkable beyond flashing. That is actually where things stand at the moment as we await a price for fixing that control box.
