Description
THe problem is not with the light actually but the lane signage. Going west, right lane must turn right. Left lane is used for left turns and going straight. This is very unusual and it causes frustrated drivers who try to pass on the right which is dangerous. The left lane should be for left turns only and the right lane should be for going straight and right turns. This would make traffic run more smoothly and make for a safer traffic pattern.

This signalization and lane markings at this intersection are being redesigned as part of the Route 85 reconstruction project slated to begin late next year. The redesign is roughly what you you have outlined as a solution.
