I myself live on Avon Street but was also curious on the age of the pipe I would rather leave it to public comments then too call a person and are there is not type of record I believe where I pay almost $5,000 in taxes every year someone should be able to look at a schematic and see how old my pipe is

Delilah and Helen , The person who handles your questions is Engineering which does have records on the age of the pipes and can do a lead test. Delilah, Regarding the concern of lead levels in drinking water. It is important to understand that the water source and the water mains that distribute drinking water contain no lead and therefore do not have elevated lead levels. However the water service pipe and components of a properties water piping may contain lead. Therefore the concern of elevated lead levels in drinking water needs to answered by identifying the pipe material for individual properties. The water main on Quincy St from Medford St to Avon St is from the 1930's and most of the water service pipes to each property are lead. The water main on Quincy St from Avon St to the Fellsway was installed in 2007 and the water service pipes are copper on the street portion. Malden will have a water improvement contract under way in 2017. It will not be possible for all lead services to be replaced in 1 year.
Helen, I hope the information above is helpful to you as well. Beyond that, the full length of Avon St is served by a water main installed in 2007 and the water service pipes are copper on the street portion, the portion on the private side could be lead.
The City of Malden web site has information regarding the potential for lead levels in drinking water. On the home page you will see a link, among the information available is a map of Malden showing each property and water pipes known to be lead are highlighted. This is according to information shown on city records. The city also offers a free water test for lead levels and an inspection of a properties water piping to determine material if requested.

I bought a self test kit today at Home Depot and they seem to be within safe levels it did say the pH was a little high butt it said the water was safe
