I want to add to this -- when I moved to Gore Street five years ago, traffic did really move much more slowly and safely. There was a blinking red traffic light at the corner of 5th and Gore which has been replaced by a "raised" intersection (which is not actually raised...) Then a painted a double yellow line was added to the street. Now traffic moves very quickly because of the line and often misses the stop sign at the 5th and Gore intersection. As a pedestrian and biker, cars ignore you at 3rd and Gore St because of poor markings and no stop sign.
We really need to get the safety on this street improved for pedestrians and bikers. The original poster here and me are not the only people complaining about this. The city opened up a traffic safety study over the summer and discussed additional work on the street. It really needs help.

Thank you for your report and for expressing your concerns regarding Gore Street. In general, traffic calming changes to streets are constructed in conjunction with other roadway work such as paving and sidewalk reconstruction. The Department of Public Works (DPW) has indicated that there is a need for utility work on Gore Street. The utility work will provide an opportunity to include traffic calming tools and enhance cyclist and pedestrian safety as part of the reconstruction project. We will begin a community process to discuss possible changes as soon as we have a better understanding of the needed work and possible schedule.
In the meantime, a request for selective enforcement on Gore Street has been submitted to the Police Department.
