Description

This 1/10 mile connector from Chelsea Street to Route 1A is one gigantic pothole. Most drivers will drive on the far left and hope nobody is coming at them before trying to navigate the pothole-on-pothole conditions on the right hand side of the road. This is a major turning point for tanker trucks coming from the East Boston Oil storage facilities - and they even have trouble with the size and frequency of the potholes.

Good news! This morning's ride was fairly smooth. The gigantic - swallow-your-front-end potholes at the intersection of Chelsea and Curtis Street have been paved over. THANK YOU DPW!!!! Mind you, this stretch of road is still not the smoothest - but it is a 500% improvement over the occasionally paved spot in the pothole! This stretch of road is still not smooth, and rough terrain can be found EVERYWHERE. Let's hope the City of Boston has this earmarked as one of the roads they will repave when warmer weather arrives.

Weather has taken its toll on the DPW's repavement job. There are portions of this road that are exposed down to brick, abandioned train tracks and several of the potholes are in the processing of reopening. This is a major connector to the TWT, Sumner Tunnel and Logan Airport, and the road is just like a washboard. The City needs to repave this whole stretch, but rather than deal with potholes, we need the entire surface taken up and reapplied.

I doubt I have any shocks left in my car after battling all of these monster potholes every morning and night on my way to work. I have never seen a road so badly in need of repair! There have got to be at least 3 MAJOR holes that kill the front end of your car if you aren't careful, and many more "smaller" potholes to run into while your avoiding the monster ones. Very uncomfortable driving, and dangerous too because you have to swerve around just to avoid them.

The manhole cover at the intersection of Curtis and Chelsea Street is now completely exposed - looking to take down any rimmed tire that it encounters. Boston DPW is doing some form of construction on Chelsea Street, but the trench they have dug doesn't compare to the washboard trench that has opened on Curtis Street. Potholes cover both lanes of Curtis Street at the intersection of Chelsea Street. You can swerve, swivel try and jump them, but you cannot avoid them.
