I don't know why, but I did not. I am a block watch captain and I have been a SCF user since soon after its inception. Before posting this last night, I did check my emails and there was nothing to indicate that trash pick-up was on a normal, non-holiday schedule. I guess maybe that also explains the high number of SCF complaints this week about trash & recycling not being picked up. But, it is also incumbent upon the City to ensure that this information is broadcast in advance. After all, we receive courtesy notices about car break-ins, street sweeping, etc on a regular basis and within relevant time frames.

I agree that it is very confusing to have regular pickup days these two weeks when every other holiday causes a day's delay in pickup. The email I got arrived at 7:42 PM on Dec. 22. I often get these from SCF, but I don't know why. Maybe I signed up for them at the SCF website? There does need to be a better way to notify residents of changes. Not everyone has web access or is on SCF, although they should be. Did you get your trash picked up? Today is our regular day and the trash still has not been picked up. The recycles were taken at 9:30.

I think the best way to notify people is by phone. Everyone has either a land line or cell phone, and many have both. The City (all cities and towns statewide) could partner with the telephone companies and make it mandatory that people provide at least one telephone number to which a robo call or text message can be delivered to notify people of events, or changes in events that will impact them. It's also very helpful when neighborhood list serves put out the word, and this is something that's fairly common in New Haven. I scrambled and got my bins out after receiving the text and email from the City last evening. When I left for work at 8 a.m., there was a refuse truck around the corner from me, but I don't know if our trash or recyclables have yet been picked up. I suspect that DPW may be working with a lighter-than-normal crew this week because of vacations, so it may take those who are actually on the job this week longer to get the routes done. I also wonder if the crews are making second passes today along yesterday's routes because people didn't know of the "change". That will further delay them today and tomorrow. I hope everyone's bins get emptied as I'm sure many of them are fuller than usual because of the holiday.

Well, it looks like today I am one reporting no trash pickup as of 3:40 pm. I guess I should start a new report.

I received three emails notices from see click fix regarding this last week. I don't pay attention to anything and I knew it. Maybe its time for some changes at PW. Please don't encourage Mayor Harpo to abuse the emergency operation center anymore than she does. It just makes people unsubscribe.
