The water system and fire hydrants on Sagebrush and all of the Stagecoach subdivision were constructed in 1976 and have been in place since then. There are many hydrants in this subdivision that are located in the sidewalk. This would be an expensive project to relocate all of these hydrants out of the public access areas to private property behind sidewalk, The City would need to fund this as part of a Capital Improvement project that would require planning, funding and contracting out to a construction firm. A report is being sent to Public Works and the Water and Sanitation Division Directors for further consideration and to determine the direction this should take as well as prioritization with other projects.

Spoke with Gallup Fire Dept regarding this issue - have asked for recommendations on locations to move hydrants.

Will see if we can budget for moves.

Moving hydrants may not be practical. We are looking at widening the sidewalks in these areas to allow for ADA access.

We've spoke with the Public Works Dept and are setting aside some money in our budget to widen the sidewalks where the hydrants are located.

Although the sidewalks will still be in the City Right of Way, we may have to move some landscaping features for some home owners. We are approaching residents that may potentially be affected by this action, so that we can explain what we are doing and why we are doing it. This may take a bit of time.

Here is a easy fix move to the other sidewalk there are 2.... This is the problem with the city official s "its not broken so lets move it"

Why is this year old complaint still on this web page?

The report is still on the web page because we are still looking at ways to address it. Moving the hydrants would be an expensive proposition. The Water and Sanitation Dept offered to pay to widen the sidewalks in the area, but due to ADA requirements, that work would have to be done throughout the neighborhood, which would also be an expensive proposition. We do want to address the issue, but funding is limited.
