Hi there. Thanks for taking the time to let us know about the issue. Reiche School (and all Portland schools) are on our City Sidewalk plowing routes. These areas are treated daily during and after storm events to create a safe walking surface. The picture you posted shows a sidewalk that has been treated with salt and sand to melt the ice and provide a safe walking surface in the meantime. That's wonderful to know, thank you, Mr. Hipple. And thank you for posting! I am very happy to read there is a policy in place to protect Portland's youngest public school students. Unfortunately, in practice, only portions of the sidewalk are plowed and treated daily. For instance, the sidewalks from Pine to the front of Reiche School (for both Clark and Brackett) are almost always plowed and treated. However, the sidewalks from the school entrance to Spring (on both Clark and Brackett) are not plowed or treated. The picture I posted was on Brackett on the south side of the school (near the playground). The picture clearly shows the snow and thick ice on the sidewalk on the south portion of Reiche. Thank goodness for the warm weather today because it melted the ice and snow, making the sidewalks passable again. If this happens in the future, should I report it to Fix It Portland? Again, many thanks for responding. I truly appreciate it.

No problem. Sorry it took us a while to get back to you! So if you see that the sidewalk has been cleared and treated with sand and salt, it means that it is being actively dealt with, so no need to alert us through See Click Fix. But if you see that we forgot to clear a certain section, or we just have a particularly bad area, please let us know.
