The sidewalk at Reiche Elementary School/Community Center, on Brackett from the corner of Brackett and Spring to the front of the school is a covered in thick ice. This is especially dangerous because many of Reiche students, ages 5-10, walk to school. Additionally, the space also houses a community center where many west end residents frequent.
Public schools, especially elementary schools, should be a high priority with respect to having clear and safe sidewalks

Hi there. Thanks for taking the time to let us know about the issue. Reiche School (and all Portland schools) are on our City Sidewalk plowing routes. These areas are treated daily during and after storm events to create a safe walking surface. The picture you posted shows a sidewalk that has been treated with salt and sand to melt the ice and provide a safe walking surface in the meantime. This is typically done on a daily basis around schools until the ice melts. More information here: http://www.portlandmaine.gov/1422/Winter-Sidewalks
Take care
