Let's be careful what we wish for. While it's unfortunate the owner has chosen to let this property continue to go unused, the alternative could be that they sell to Sares Regis and this lot is redeveloped into 15-20 tall and skinny townhouses. Faced with that choice, I'll take the abandoned church any day.
I lived next to it for 15 years, and for 13 out of 15 it was abandoned. There was some low-budget daycare center there for a while that didn't invest in any improvements. But other than that - yes, it's basically abandoned. I would like to know who the owner is and why they're wasting their money not doing anything with their property.
Thank you for submitting your concern. City staff will look into the issue(s) and take action appropriately. If we need further information or need access to your property to verify the concern, we will contact you. In the meantime, feel free to contact me, Ken Ho, at 650-286-3238 if you have any questions.
If it's publicly known who the owner is, business-minded people could approach them.
THIS IS MY SPECULATION ONLY but I am willing to bet that the owner wants this re-zoned for housing and sell to Sares-Regis for building a condo skyscraper. This is why they are purposefully letting this building become an eyesore to the community. Same strategy as being currently used by Edgewater Plaza and Charter Square owners.
Correct, the property is currently unoccupied. The owner of the property received approval to open a day care some time ago, but let it lapse. As a general rule, the City can only monitor the maintenance of a property, and cannot require an owner of a property occupy it or to sell it. This issue will now be closed.
