"Welcome to West Oakland, dear BART riders! Next to the tracks, you'll see the burned out shell of a construction project after the Great Fire of June 14th, 2012. It has been strategically covered in graffiti, to camouflage the fact that not a lot has been done since."
Sad. There are for-sale signs, but who would want to deal with the homeless encampment, graffiti and dumping problem that has been festering at this place?
I spoke with "Code Enforcement." They cannot find this property, or a complaint against this property, in their computer system. without the actual address on file (it could be any one of 25 possibilities), they cannot find it. The other option was to have the number assigned by Code Enforcement upon the submission of the report. Since PWA submitted it to Code Enforcement, I called PWA for this number.
According to PWA, they pass it off to Code Enforcement and then it is none of their concern. The details of how the information is transferred is murky, but they do not retain any information from Code Enforcement. Therefore, it's my opinion that there is no accountability once PWA passes off an issue to Code Enforcement, since the chain of custody of an issue is lost.
After some more digging, The official property address is 1396 5th Street. Code Enforcement Case Number 1401133 was created on March 14, 2014. Notice of violation was mailed on March 18, 2014. A representative from the building owners has been in contact with the Code Inspector and was hoping to have a clean up contractor on site by Monday.
