Oh come on give me a break. What "Official" would say something like that in front of children? Those Courts are School District property they DO NOT belong to the Borough. If you feel that strongly about it buy your kid a Hoop and let him and his friends play ball at your own house. Everything does not need to be racially motivated!!!

I would hope that an official wouldn't actually tell children that the courts were closed because of the race of those who play there, but I don't doubt that it is the reason behind it.

It is really upsetting to see how many basketball courts have been rendered unusable by local municipalities in this area. Collingdale Park is only the latest one to disappear.

Check out the remnants of courts on Westmont Ave in Collingdale, or Shisler Ave. in Aldan. Glenwood Ave. in Clifton Heights.... Westbrook Park Elementary School. Remember the courts on West Chester Pike across from the LA Fitness in Havertown? And there's plenty more.

When local officials wonder why area youths have nothing better to do than get in trouble, they need to realize that these actions only contribute to the problem.

The Courts at Westmont park were closed due to fighting and the hours of usage were being ignored.

the courts were taken away because of graffiti and too many fights. and all the "gang" action that was going on. not because of race.

I must say race was a good one so original (NOT) maybe if you would be a involved parent you would know the truth. Oh wait i am sorry you rather take the easy way out and go online. Well lets set the facts straight. #1 It would be up to Southeast Delco not Collingdale. #2 The lovely people we elected into office as a school board had playgrounds taken down to expand the schools and we were told they were going to be moved or put back up. Only to find out that they lied (wow no suprise here either). #3 If you would go to a Home and School meeting you might find out that the Home and School has tried to have the basketball courts put back along with the playground with a no because of underground wires. You also would know that the Home and School has offered to buy portiable basketball nets with no answer. #4 If you would be involved you would also know Collingdale basketball nets, boards, and rims have been stolen or vandelized and Collingdale has done a good job of trying to keep up. Once again if you were involved you would know this information and maybe if more parents care it would not be a problem.

Why dont you buy your kid a basketball net for you driveway like the White kids do.
