Yes--but I know this intersection intimately as both a pedestrian and as a driver, having lived a few houses away from it for 13 years. I wanted to add to this comment that this is known as a dangerous intersection for pedestrians. My kids and I have been almost hit by careless drivers here multiple times in our years living on Maple Ridge St (by people turning right on the red off Miller onto seventh or by people turning left onto Miller.

I'm not sure what the right solution is here. If a change is made, I hope pedestrian safety is prioritized. During the morning rush hour, many students and families stream through this intersection on foot on the way to Mack School and the school bus stop there. The flow is reversed starting around 3 pm each afternoon. These folks need sufficient time to safely cross the street. It is already difficult to get turning traffic to acknowledge/wait for pedestrians in the crosswalks. A short light for traffic turning from 7th may make drivers even more reckless as they try to get onto Miller before the light changes. Also, at school drop-off and pick-up times, the intersection at Miller and Red Oak is very dangerous, with people turning in and out of that intersection while contending with heavy traffic and poor visibility. I suspect that the timing of the light at Miller and Seventh impacts the safety / traffic flow at this intersection, but I can't say off the top of my head whether a longer light would improve things or make them worse. So, please consider the wider impacts of any change you might make in response to this request.

I live by Mack school and I drive and walk through this intersection daily. I would tend to disagree that it is "always backed up". I agree that this is a very dangerous intersection for pedestrians and providing a longer light for through miller traffic will not make it any safer. This is the only safe crossing for people south of miller who want to go to Mack school or for people on the north side of miller who want to walk to West Park, which I do frequently. I think that traffic going down Miller routinely exceeds the 25mph speed limit around a school zone and increasing the length of time would necessitate other traffic calming measures to be implemented. Having to wait a little longer at a light in your car does not seem like a big price to pay for pedestrian safety.

I disagree with this suggestion. The only time of day when this faces significant backup is during commutes, especially during school drop-off. 7th also gets backed up at that time, not surprising since it has a shorter cycle. (BTW, on January 31st, 7th Street was backed up to Huron. It was taking at least 4 cycles to get through the light.)

And the reason there is no other backup until 1st is because that's the next stop light!

Leading Pedestrian Intervals are installed at this intersection to give pedestrians a head start before vehicles are released, as this provides may provide better visual cue to drivers to yield to pedestrians. I have noticed the pedestrian intervals where the light is red in all direction but the walk sign is on for pedestrians and I think it helps when I am crossing the street. Thank you for putting the priority on pedestrian safety.
