good luck with that. i rEported the vacant property on the corner of beverly and oak island st. i posted new pictures, and it was declared a duplicate with no further commenting. CASE CLOSED!
Poster is misinformed. The rats are not coming from the empty lots. They are coming from the houses adjacent who improperly store trash and food waste. Instead of blaming the city one should look at ones own property. rats don't live on a small piece of land which are clean with no cover or food source...they are living under homes.
Thank you for reporting this issue. This issue has been assigned to Inspectional Services to address as soon as possible. An update will be posted as information becomes available.
Whoever is to blame is not the important part of the problem as the city can determine that by coming out as the whole block is infested and help from the city is needed ,If it is a neighbor or an empty lot who cares lets just please get some baiting in that area.If people are leaving their garbage out in the open then they should be issued a warning or whatever the process calls for.
Who ever is the Expert Guest has to know the entire city is infested. They DO borrow on unoccupied Land. They do travel to Homes and Pipes. The work the City did in Oak Island Must Not have had enough Baiting in the Contract Bid. Any work done under Streets should require Manditory Baiting. The opposite side of North Shore Road to Train Tracks has INFESTATIONS OF RATS even out in Day. Most residents do not want to ADMIT current situation in homes I have been told, but it is NOT homeowners Fault. Hopefully NEW administration Can figure this out. Whatever The City HAD in place did not work and is Worse.
The more and more real estate development that is going on in this city is also driving the rats out, along with other rodents that are being uprooted from the over development. Consevation land should be preeserved better such as on Bellevue ave. 8 units built on conservation land and stirring up the rodents from lower Revere st. to Oak Island with condos on the Beach.
The Condominium construction on the beach is heavily baited and monitored.
If you just walk your neighborhood and see how many homes have trash bags outside, barrels with no covers or have holes in them.
I agree the lot on Beverly Street needs to be cleaned up by owner right away.
They are going to be pulling permits within the next few weeks based on what a few men said that have been looking at lot and Street.
I agree with the barrels needing lids and should be provided by the city like surrounding towns. These single family homes that have 4-5 barrels a week are illegal apartments with over population which will only get worse after all the development for residential is done in this city. They can put a restaurant in the bottom floor and call it mixed use but it is still more apartments and people added to the trash, the rats the traffic the over population of schools the strain on our water sewer system. So they can bait it for now but this city is going to be a pile of cement soon.
