Description

On the bike path that crosses this drive way, Stop signs are oriented to the cyclists and pedestrains when they should be oriented to the CARS as required by Vermont Law. The cars should be stopping or yeliding for the pedestrians not the other way around.

I don't agree. The path coming from the east has a T at Spear Street. Even though there is a cross-walk, a bike rider should stop before crossing rather than shooting out into a street that is busy at certain times of day. In any case, the bike should be turning onto Spear for a proper turn into the athletic compound. If the biker wants to go directly across, they should be following pedestrian rules -- walk the bike.

You misunderstand. This path continues straight. accross the driveway leading to UVM's ESF. There is no "T", it is like a standard ped crossing. Riders are not "shooting" out into a busy street, they are merely continuing up a path. They should not have to yeild to cars it should be other way around.

The signs are oriented in the proper direction as they are intended to stop and/or cyclists that there is a street/drive upcoming as Mr. Jacobowitz stated.

I think Roger put the map marker in the wrong place. Down by the Forest Service, the yield does face the bikes; One could argue that exiting cars have to stop before entering Spear. Incoming cars are more of a problem. Do they have enough room and view to stop for fast-moving bikes?

This is where the marker appeared to be. Clearly, bikes should not ride across this pedestrian crossing even though the yield signs are positioned facing the auto traffic heading north and south.
