I have not heard of any progress on this issue. But I would like to keep it open a while longer.

Well I can contact the MBTA directly and I will. However, I thought Mayor Arrigo's office would recognize this as a very inexpensive way to help the citizen's (read that voters) of the Beachmont section of Revere. Although the MBTA may have to rearrange the bus schedule to add in the extra few minutes it would take the 119 bus to make the loop by the Stop & Shop before heading toward the Beachmont train station and then into Beachmont. Having the ability to catch the bus while waiting inside the Stop & Shop, especially in the winter, would make a great difference to residents who can't afford a car and have to carry their groceries home. In the winter the sidewalks between the Stop & Shop and the Beachmont area are not cleaned very well and it is very difficult to do grocery shopping and carry bundles while walking on icy sidewalks or worse. Especially if one is old or is trying to push a baby stroller.

This idea seemed like a simple way to make the lives of the residents of Beachmont better without any real increase in costs that would require the need to raise taxes. These are the ideas that the city should be looking for to make our lives better without serious expense.

I am disappointed in this response from the city. I will contact the MBTA and also my city councillors to see if they will fight for making the lives of Beachmont residents a little easier. But I have to say this attitude from the city is short sighted. The Mayor can go to bat for the citizens and maybe get results or maybe not. At least he would have tried. But what I read here is the Mayor's office is pushing this off as something they are not interested in fighting for. If that is the case then come next election we will vote for a Mayor who will go to bat for us and cares about helping us. Is the mayor really aware of the responses being posted?

Philip, last February the Mayor sent a letter an place a phone call to MBTA officials requesting this change. The City Council also drafted and passed a motion to which was sent via mail to the MBTA GM's office as well. The City has made its opinion known on this and formally advocates for modifications to this route.

That said the MBTA has its own process for modifying routes and the city does not control this process. Having personally spoken with T staff about this issue I can tell you that they are generally very slow to modify bus routes. Modifications usually come in batches in conjunction with publication of new system schedules that get published. They also generally study extensively the timing and schedule impacts of any proposed changes. The nature of a massive system like the T is that operations are slow to change.

In response to resident and council requests the city has reached out to the T about a number of proposed changes within the city, such as extending service further up ocean Ave for routes that terminate at wonderland. The final analysis and decision on these issues ultimately rests with the T, which is why it would be helpful if residents with concerns also contacted the T directly to express their opinions.

The issue is marked closed in SeeClickFix because this particular app is designed to process service requests for city departments such as DPW. This is more of a policy question than a service request as it does not fall within a purview of a city department.

While that does not mean it's not an issue we obviously research intently and take seriously, this is not the kind of issue designed to be processed through the city's SeeClickFix.

First let me thank the City, the Mayor's office and City Council for taking up this issue. I will try to get people in the area to call the T to support these changes.

Second, let me say there was some confusion on this ticket. The response I wrote above when I asked to keep this issue open was a reply to the reply above it. I think that reply wasn't for this bus issue because it reads more like it is talking about the Beachmont street crossing issue I have on another ticket. At least that is how I read it at the time.

In any event I am glad this bus issue is on someone's list for possible future action. I am sure the residents of Beachmont will appreciate the change when it occurs.
