Hello, we have observed several sump pump hoses going directly to the streets/sidewalks in different areas as well as alleys. Best practice is to have the sump water re-absorbed on their own properties which is common with other Cities. Acknowledging that some of the water will re-circulate, this should help with the irrigation of trees and grass. Releasing directly on sidewalks can create slippery algae and constant wetness. We hope residents will acknowledge if their sump water is creating an issue and to redirect the water with hoses where necessary to avoid causing these issues for others however we also recognize there is no perfect answer for this issue. We will consider sending out information to residents to inform them of the best practice to absorb the water on their properties and encourage them to use the sump water as irrigation during the summer months to minimize the run-off onto streets and alleys. Storage in outdoor tanks is a good idea which we have seen some residents already do. Thank you again for your concern.
