What if these condos were restored as a public nature center, like Milford's Audubon Center?

I can;t believe no one has grabbed these yet.

They are owned by a developer who keeps staving off demolition orders by doing small improvements, like the roof he recently added. It was owned by adjacent Hemingway Cove Condos, and was likely bought by Riverside Property Mgmt. in West Cornwall, CT, but I am not completely sure the sale went through. The Mayor's Office knows about, but feel free to remind them, so they can place a new demo order to force them either rebuilt or erased. Condo neighbors have been dealing w/ these for 25 years, so this is not just about the recession, honestly.

The city or the adjacent nature preserve of the New Haven Land Trust, Quinnipiac Meadows/Fargeorge Preserve, needs to step in and expand the park/preserve area to include this property. there is a great view of the river being blocked by these dangerous eyesores.

They have been there 25 Years?

This condo has been empty for over 25 years. We in Block watch 851 have been complaining for years. Now how many years this mayor has been in office. Is he getting payed off or just don't care about people on Quinnipiac Av. or all of us in the heights.

It's appalling how little attention is paid to issues in our neighborhood-bet this would have been resolved on Orange Street or in the mayor's neighborhood many years ago!

Call the Building Department at 203.946.8045...they should know the deal!!!!!

Whatever info you guys could post about the current state of this property and the history would be interesting.

Who knows maybe a developer will take interest.

what about that house/church looking building just a little ways down from this condo eyesore? that also looks horrible and needs to come down

Yes, you're right - there is an old blue-gray boarded up church a few doors down that I heard a developer owns, but has done nothing with it. I wouldn't want that one torn down it's old - it has a great waterfront backyard, and would make a great home, apartments, design or architect's office or a community center or artists' studios. I agree some thing should be done w/ it, though.

The old justice of the peace building is just as bad but the Hemingway cove condo's I have been looking at for over 25 years. It's time they come down. Since Hemingway Cove Association created these units, have they been paying the taxes or we should create a law suite against them bringing down our neighborhood. Give the land to the land trust. It's time for us to enjoy this property and not be an eye soar for over the last 25 years. Kids have been hanging around them again and the fire dept has sent letters to have them torn down. This is an example of New Havens failure. You don't see this happen in other cities. What's going on in city hall.

I checked these out of interest the other day and it seems like there is some structural failure in the back porches. I'm guessing that these are a liability.

You also, might want to print out a flyer from the link above and pass it around the condo complex asking others to speak up.

I think it is time for them to come down now. I understand the condo association at Hemingway Cove is the association in charge. If so they are not very good if they let the property they are responsible for to fall in such dis-repair for 25 years. Part of phase 3 they have fixed up but this part they don't clearly care by the last 25years of neglect. Who has been paying the Taxes for the last 25 years. Hemingway Cove-- Yea-right. We are fed up and Hemingway Cove association do what your are suppose to protect the property maintain it.

Is the insurance company for Hemingway Cove aware of the 2 abandoned buildings on either side of the inhabited part of Hemingway cove. They are extremely close. The abandoned section of Hemingway Cove that the Association has control of, does it have proper liability insurance for the sidewalk they are responsible to maintain for and do not maintain. I understand that the owners of Hemingway Cove voted not have the Boarded up units part of their property, this has not passed yet till it is sold. They are still responsible until it is officially separated. How can the people think so poorly about the neighborhood that they leave this units in deplorable condition for so long. It is time to add more lawyers to the mix to represent the neighborhood. We are fed up with Hemingway Cove.

This is a more complex issue than you guys are understanding. I have to refrain from too many details, but this problem will be going away soon. There is a developer who has been trying to get approvals for 3 years to redeveleope the property and finally worked out all of the issues. I think you'll see a change soon.

I am so tired and angry to hear that someone says they been trying to fix the issues for 3 years when most of us have been living with this horrible disaster for over 25 years. Get a grip, we are fed up. The owners of Hemingway Cove have been the worst neighbors anyone should have to live near. They themselves are holding up this project and this should of been dealt and corrected over 25 years ago. Hemingway Cove's lack of maintainence 25years and counting. I get sick when Hemingway Cove says it is their private property, don't anyone dare go near it. If so take care of it. Most of us know in the area, we realize you live by double standards.

Who do you think has been holding up the project? the person who has been trying to get this resolved is not affiliated with Hemingway Cove, it is there Board, Attorneys and the City itself which has held up anyone coming in and fixing it. So basically, I am agreeing with you.

The people who live in and own property there are responsible for their board. Owners vot the board members in. It is all the people who own property in Hemingway Cove responsible for leaving their un-occupied units to rot for decades. The owners have the power to make their board work for them or get rid of them. Hemingway Cove has the responsibility to maintain those abandoned units per bylaws but don't care and hasn't in years. I understand there is a law in place that doesn't allow condo owners to vote to split their property. The last 3 years are not any better than the last 25 plus years. They are still rotting away. We have no sympathy for developers and boards that do not help the neighborhood.

The condo's are worse than ever. I just don't understand all the people who live in Hemingway Cove Condo's created this mess and has to drive by it every day and no one seems to care, god forgive that someone picks up some trash. It is phase 3 of Hemingway cove and they are legally responsible for anyone getting hurt on that mess of a property. Over 25 years now and counting. I am sure the owners of Hemingway cove are proud of their creation.

It is a bunch of lawyers that have kept it this way, the worst ones are ones at Hemingway Cove. You have to go to the Hemingway Cove Board to get that answer. A developer has the building rights and they would of been finished but the Good people of Hemingway Cove and their lawyers won't let that happen. So it sits in limbo. The owners and Hemingway Cove board could have the boarded up phase 3 completed but you can ask they why they wont allow it. I was told today there is another demolition order coming down on them. Lets all hold our breaths and maybe they will be torn down this time. I think there has been 5 or 6 demolition orders in the past

Interesting. Where do the demo orders come from? The City?

the city deems them unsafe since they been rotting away for over 25years and they used allot of particle board in construction. I only hope this time they will be gone.

LCI one of the city departments does a investigation to see what condition the structure is in. After 25 plus years of being open to the weather/broken windows, I am sure there is quite a bit or rot. We will see what will be the result if any in the next few months. We only can hope the neighbors can will see it come down.

I hope they were smart enough to recycle, I'm sure plenty of the materials were still good, especially the skylights. I'm glad to see something was done after all these years.
