I've used this intersection of decades, and have also seen a sudden uptick in near crashes in the last few months. I'm not aware of any changes, but certainly people are going through on Seventh from the left turn lane heading both north and south. A pictorial representation of how traffic is supposed to move (show two lanes and the left turning left onto Huron) might help? The left turn sign currently could be interpreted going north as not a true left turn, but follow the left jog onto Seventh. I also had GPS on one time and it instructed me to use either lane to continue on seventh, incorrectly instructing action from the left turn lane. Could that explain the uptick in near crashes? Are people hearing an incorect instruction from GPS directions? An investigation is in order, I agree.

I noticed that this intersection has been like this since the 1880s, and never been addressed...wonder why???

I would also reiterate that the more confusing this intersection is for drivers, the less safe it is for pedestrians. After one very scary close call there, we avoid that intersection whenever possible.

I would second the need for a green left turn only arrow. I think that solve a lot of the issues at this mess of an intersection.

I wholeheartedly support improvements to this intersection. Additionally, I'd support a left turn signal driving east on Huron to turn north on 7th Street. Drivers hurrying to leave downtown in the afternoon run yellow lights driving west, make left turns onto 7th near impossible at times.
