This crosswalk was installed at my request several years ago so that I can push my mother in a wheelchair to the park. The problem is not the crosswalk. The problem is the speeding, which is completely out of control and has been for the 20+ years I have lived on Lawton Ave. There needs to be a three-way stop and it needs to be enforced. I have used this crosswalk many times and it has been most helpful. However to make it safe I always walk out into the middle of the street first and hold my hands up. I can see that children would be at great risk thinking that this crosswalk would protect them as Mercer students in their cars are completely oblivious.

Perhaps if they added on of the 'Stop for Pedestrians" State Law signs in the middle of the ROW it would help.

Stop for pedestrians signs might work. Three of them would be needed. I'm not sure of the law on this, however. does this mean a car would only have to stop if they see a pedestrian? If this is the case I think three regular stop signs would be better. With people being distracted, talking on the phone, texting, they could easily not see a pedestrian until and unless they are already stopped. Also parking is allowed on Adams Street too close to the Lawton Avenue intersections for pedestrians to be seen easily. A couple of these parking spaces need to be eliminated.

We are looking at making the existing crosswalk more visible with the addition of crosswalk stripes. In addition, the "Stop for Pedestrian" sign can be beneficial as well.

The crosswalk stripes are not helpful. It needs signage as suggested and speed enforcement.

Stripes were painted in the crosswalk to make it more visible for motorist to see.
