  I'm glad I'm not the only one being ignored here. I emailed bmurphy@cityofmalden.org when the barrels were first left out front and never received a response then either. I have noticed that since you brought the matter up here the barrels are lined up properly again. But still, why no response from the city? Even on this forum - this post seems to have been ignored.

  There's a difference between lined up properly (mimicking an island that will force the correct flow of traffic for Swain's Pond & Lebanon) and just making sure they're no longer in the middle of a lane of travel. No matter what, the people that make the left onto Swain's Pond will continue to move the barrels so as to not inconvenience them as they've done from the jump on this. Put in the proposal to build the damn island and get the barrels out of the street. As if the abandoned store with piles of trash outback didn't make that corner look bad enough, let's leave some scattered traffic barrels there too.

  Got a non-answer response from Councilor Murphy (after twitter-badgering the mayor) saying the barrels will stay. There's a barrel in the middle of the north travel lane again…

  It's been a while since this issue has been discussed. Now that it's winter and we've just gotten through a bad storm I thought I'd post a picture of how well those barrels are working here. I, for one, feel so much safer knowing that these rubber rings are standing guard at this dangerous corner, while the barrels keep the sidewalk safe.

  Knowing this comment will be deleted - Murphy doesn't care. They're serving their purpose as long as she doesn't drive by. I called the police last week b/c the base was in the middle of the travel lane. It was still there 4 hours later. Now the barrels are on the side of the road, but they're not hurting anybody from there! Total joke.

  True, they aren't hurting anyone now that they're on the side of the road, but how many times have cars had to swerve to avoid them when they come around the corner and the barrels are rolling around the middle of the street? They're an accident waiting to happen the way they are...

  I think they never had the money for a island, and the barrels were put there as an alternative. They seem more of a nuisance, and are really ugly.
