It's teenagers that like to move and knock over the trash cans. We haven't seen any dogs off leash in the park in a long time. It would be silly to say "no animals" as that's not the case in any park in Huntsville.
The community association determined that that sign was erroneous. Ord. 75-315 doesn't even exist in the city ordinances.
See Sec. 19-3. - Persons in parks at night.
(a)
It shall be unlawful for any person to be upon the grounds of any public park under the supervision of the director of parks and recreation, except Big Spring Park, during the period from one-half hour after sunset to one-half hour before sunrise unless such person is at the time a participant or spectator of an activity officially scheduled by the parks and recreation department.
(b)
This section shall be effective as to each such park from and after such time as appropriate signs are erected in such park informing the public of the provisions of this section.
(Code 1982, § 19-2)
There is in fact no law barring animals from parks in Huntsville. In fact, they're allowed in all public places while properly restrained.
The city and parks and recs have been contacted to verify what the current ordinances are and asked to update the signs to reflect the current ordinances on animals and guns .
Thank you for contacting us via Huntsville Connect. The City is currently updating rule signs, we will have that one removed for the time being. The garbage can must be mobile so that landscaping can empty it.
Yes, thank you for seeing that the proper rules are posted. I did want to point out that the guy came and removed the sign on the maintenance entrance, but forgot the sign at the parking lot entrance on Pine. Please make sure he updates both sides of the park when the new signs are placed.
