Just above your photo is the street address and in blue Show on Map. This offers a regular map or a satellite shot. I can see this mess in your photo but not in the satellite photo but how did this disaster happen so fast?
AH, I see! They've been on the site for at least a year. This property is owned by the west oakland develpment corporation, the people who own that big parking lot. They don't care about the neighborhood at all. They are trying to get funding for a development, but I can't see allowing it, if this lot looks this bad if just proved they'd be bad neighbors.
Thank you for your request. According to our system, we already have an open service request of this kind at this location. Your request has been combined with service request #721170. I walk/bike by here every day. This is some of the worst junkyard/homeless encampment I've ever seen. I can't believe the parking lot owners can get away with letting this go on for so long.
On top of that, they haven't cleaned up the sidewalk trash / weeds for AGES, something they used to do at least once in a while. the weeds are growing full force and out into the sidewalk.
It's mind boggling that it can just stay like this. I have emailed the code compliance office, someone else reported it as a hazard to cal trans. And yet it just sits.
If the West Oakland Development Group EVER gets one of their developments to the planning stage, I'm going to be there yelling.
But what can we do?
The city of Oakland is just this frozen constipated entity that seems to do nothing. If any of you have time, let's call the code compliance desk! I'll do it tomorrow!! Will any of you?
do you have the number/e-mail address? I'll do it! thank you!
If this were as simple as a small homeless encampment, I wouldn't be so ruffled. but I have seen what's behind this fence on a daily basis. not to mention having a couple very large (but I'm sure sweet) pit bulls trailing me along the fence as I pass by, barking up a storm. Poor doggies.
thanks Chester. Yesterday, I came out of BART early afternoon and noticed two women who I've seen coming in and out of this encampment picking up trash near 5th and Mandela. while waiting for the light to change I asked one of them what they were up to. one of them said that so much trash accumulates they thought they would come out and help to pick some of it up. I thanked them for going it, but found it interesting that they live in such a horrendous situation and don't seem to be cleaning up their immediate area.
I also noticed two men further down the street toward Union who looked to have a weed whacker but have no idea if they used it. I guess I'll find out tomorrow.

I don't understand the question..... but the owners of the property are allowing them to be there.
