Description
The 5300 block of Shafter Avenue is in very poor condition. Bicycles rattle down the street in spice of it being a bicycle path. The street gets a lot of car traffic due to the nearby freeway off-ramp. The cars travel very fast and with bikes trying to navigate all the ruts, it's an accident waiting to happen. The children on bikes have an especially tough time staying out of the way of speeding cars. I'd appreciate if PW wouldy repair the road, possibly add speed bumps, and clearly mark the bike route. Thanks, Tony Kay (shafter Ave resident)

Thanks for sending in this report, and please note that Shafter Ave is on the city's existing paving plan for resurfacing, possibly in late 2017 but likely early 2018.
The City of Oakland did put together a plan for additional traffic calming treatments along the Webster/Shafter bike boulevard (plan at https://www.scribd.com/document/275382696/Oakland-Bicycle-Boulevard-Policy-Final-Recommendations). I don't know yet whether or not these treatments will be applied as part of the paving project, but ideally it can be coordinated with the existing project.
