Description
Almost every day and sometimes late into the knight young teens and some older young adults hang out in the road here. They block access to driveways and cars have to stop and wait for the kids to get their skateboard rails and ramps out of the road. This is a safety hazard not to mention the annoyance factor of having to wait to enter your driveway or hearing their constant rattle as skateboards hit the street. Isn't there a skate board park these kids can hang out at instead of the middle of the street?

Chris-
Maybe the parents who had the kids should provide them with safe entertainment. Maybe they should be taught it isn't safe to play in the road! The road is not a skatepark and it is not the tax payers obligation to pay for other peoples kids hobbies. Maybe the police could ticket these skaterboarders and then use the fines towards an upgraded skatepark.

Let's remember that even when they are taller than us, they are still kids. I don't know about you, but I had much more freedom as a child than I give my own son. "Come home when the street lights come on."
I recently saw a very patient (and watchful) father with a very active two-year-old who was playing in the dirt, picking up bugs, and generally making a mess. When called out on it by a friend he replied, "It's her world...I figure I had better let her explore it." The same is true for the older kids...they need to be able to explore.
Kids today have been boxed in at every turn: don't go here, don't touch that, this is all for the grown-ups. Structured, supervised play has its place, but humans need to make mistakes to learn...this happens best when the kids are actually allowed to interact with the world around them.
Let's just be glad that we live in a small town where such things can happen, shall we?
