Thank you for your email.
There have been other similar complaints about the intersection of Main Street and South Street. MassDOT recognizes that turning left or continuing straight from South Street is indeed very difficult. We are now in the process of providing new conduits under the roadway at that intersection as well as the one at the Main Street/Route 16 West Ramps. These conduits are for possible future traffic signals and will be installed by the contractor performing the work on the Cradock Bridge project. Please understand that there is no approved project at this time to install fully functioning traffic signals at these locations. However, should a project be approved, the conduits will already be in place, making signal installation much easier.
In addition to the above response, it is also very difficult to cross Main Street on foot at this location. This can also be addressed in a future project now that conduits are being provided.
Enforcement would be up to the City’s Police Department.
We hope this addresses your concerns.
