I almost hit that one too, and had to swerve hard to avoid it. It was/is like a crater. Has been there now for quite a while. Sorry what happened to you.
You should file a damage claim with the Oakland City Attorney. Its crazy for taxpayer to pay for damaged tires and wheels and not fix our roads. Oakland has no viable leadership.

Agreed the PW is limping along and the Mayor decides to make a new Transportation Czar instead of fixing systemic problems. With recent passage of local bond funding for roads, they City should not be lacking for funding to fix these things. If they wanted to make it a priority, they could issue a big contact to the private sector to fix every pothole in a month. But they are too afraid of the unions to do that and so the status quo persists.
