Description
We have seen many and know 3 personally; 1 being my son that has had an accident there. Same conditions for the 3 that we know. Light Rain. Cars turning left from Magothy bridge onto 648 slide, hit the guardrail and in 2 of the 3 cases above bounce back and hit other vehicles. Officers at one of the accidents said the county graded the road improperly and this happens all the time. SOMETHING needs to be done!!

In response to your concerns, the intersection of Magothy Bridge Road and Baltimore & Annapolis Boulevard (MD 648) was recently inspected by County engineers. The intersection is typical of intersections throughout the County and constructed in compliance with current highway standards.
The damage to guardrail was observed where the southbound lane of Magothy Bridge Road turns left onto southbound Baltimore & Annapolis Boulevard (MD 648). This left turn lane is unusually long to accommodate peak traffic volumes. The left turn itself onto State Route MD 648 is tight and requires motorists to reduce speed to remain in the travel lane. If the turn is made too fast, the vehicle swings wide and strikes the guardrail along the edge of the narrow shoulder.
To address your concerns our traffic engineers are currently reviewing this location to determine if additional signing is warranted to encourage motorists to reduce speed approaching the left turn. Additionally, we have requested State Highway Administration (SHA) review the skid resistant rating of the portion of MD 648 where the incidents are occurring to determine if corrective action is warranted.
Thank you for your interest in this regard.

The officer in my son's case said he is called to accidents there all the time. Even if people were going less than 10mph this can happen.
Perhaps the skid rating will tell.
Thank you for your fast response!

As the incidents are occurring along the state maintained roadway, the customer should contact Ms. Debra Russell, Assistant District Engineer Project Development, SHA District 5, at 410-841-1079 for additional information on corrective action, if required, by SHA.
