Most people don't tour apartments at midnight on a weekend to ever know this is a problem of this scale.

The night club should not be allowed to operate outside the noise regulations set by the city, in any case.

We can hear it almost 2 blocks away on the 6th floor of our building. I've reported the noise violation to the police on several occasions already. I recommend others continue to also call 311 and email our city council-member: kmcduffie@DCCOUNCIL.US and the NOMA business improvement district: rmroczek@nomabid.org . As the 'guest' stated how would anyone know its an issue if we're not from the area, it's not poor decision making its an illegal noise violation that needs to be remedied by local authorities.

Every apartment I have ever moved into has been subject to the night time neighborhood drive thru. That's just common sense when move into a neighborhood in the city. You have to be smart enough to know that places that look just fine in the day time can look totally different at night. The club has been there for several years. A quick google about the neighborhood would have revealed that. I hate that they built apartments right on top of the club but the club was there first... Just deal with your lack of due diligence until the lease is up

Also, just curious, what device are you using to measure the DBs? My reading was never over 54 DBs

It's not just the music coming from the club. It's the hours afterwards where people coming out of the club, intoxicated and otherwise, are yelling and fighting and warranting police attention whose sirens - in addition to the obnoxious club attendees - are creating enough noise to keep up the neighborhood blocks away.

If you want results on this now, call 911. Tell them to bring something to measure the decibels. If you want no results tonight, rely on this request. The decibels will be low by the time anyone really reads this request.

Sounds like you have moved to a quieter neighborhood. Or at least one that is not home to two nightclubs.

I have a handheld decibel meter. I have been submittung videos to the police of the noise on our balcony 2 blocks away. I have been notified by email: Lieutenant Janifer: Patricia.Janifer@dc.gov
that they have issued citations to the club with this evidence. I recommend others do the same and send videos and complaints to the contacts in my last post. I moved here from a neighborhood with 10 bars in a two block radius without this much noise. I know of multiple other area residents all submitting complaints. Ill continue to do so until the noise level is brought within compliance.

Wow mittens you're just full of opinions that have apparently nothing to do with you. I do audio visual work and happen to have a decibel meter for my job. I've lived in Paris, London, Prague, Taipei, Chicago, and other major cities and never had an issue like this with one venue. Ive seen many residents post complaints about this issue so I know Im not alone. If you don't live in the neighborhood why are you even commenting on these posts? Get a life and discuss issues in your own community.

I'm a lifelong resident of the District and while I don't live in this particular neighborhood, my husband does live sound at various clubs throughout the district and I frequently see these types of posts. They always center around people who somehow manage to move into a neighborhood without knowing that there is a nightclub right smack dab in the middle of it. I congratulate you on being so well travelled. I'm sorry that of all the cities in the world that you've lived in, DC is somehow the only one with a noise problem... And apparently this particular neighborhood in DC. I hate that they built these apartments on top of clubs but again, Ibiza has been around for several years.
I appreciate your "get a life" comments. But I stand by my opinion. I get these notifications because I work in the neighborhood. I respectfully suggest that in the future you be more mindful of where you decide to live... Or take your hand held db meter out into the neighborhood before you move in.

Handheld decibel meter vs. who was there first. I don't know the letter of the law but I would like to think there are legal issues if a business is exceeding the legal db rate. If patrons too are making too much noise exceeding FB levels when they leave at the end of the night that too should be a problem. If people are getting in fights with weapons, that's a problem.

There will likely be a reduction in business at the clubs if there isnt an attempt to solve the problems. Wouldn't it be better to agressively encourage patrons to be quiet? Arrange discounts with local hotels? Install strong soundproofing in the clubs? Just as the clubs were here first, it is also reasonable to expect lower decibel levels.

The club was there before you lived there. It's a club deal with it. It's a part of city living, either move or get sound proof walls

That's a "nice" sentiment and all but not consistent with the DC regs best as I can tell:
2700.1​It is the declared public policy of the District that every person is entitled to ambient noise levels that are not detrimental to life to life, health, and enjoyment of his or her property. It is hereby declared that excessive or unnecessary noises within the District are a menace to the welfare and prosperity of the residents and businesses of the District. It is the declared public policy of the District to reduce the ambient noise level in the District to promote public health, safety, welfare, and the peace and quiet of the inhabitants of the District, and to facilitate the enjoyment of the natural attraction of the District.

Later on in the same regs it gives the police the ability to enforce the law and assess fines. It appears that any grandfathering for most loud pre-existing sources ended in the late 1970s. If it's the law then that's the deal.

I can see both sides of the coin but I'm also concerned this is moreso about the land that club occupies. Since I've been living in this city I've learned to do the friday or saturday night drive through to see what the neighborhood is really like. I run a multimedia business and noice rowdyness violence by simpletons in the neighborhood are a factor. However at the same time responsible business ownership means respecting the laws set forth by the city. At the sametime continued violation of these laws will cause the business to be fined out of business freeing up the land for those who wish to continue to gentrify DC which has its own set of advantages and disadvantages. Personally I dont care what happens to Ibiza as I'm not a patron and never intend to be as the demographic it serves doesn't fit my interests however the continued scarcity of affordable housing is a cause for concern. After all these people are paying at least $2500 to rent these apartments. For someone earning $60-65k/yr that's almost an entire month's take home pay (yes I still have a day job). I guess if I moved in, I'd lose the potbelly real quick and I'll have free music in the house. :-D
