I am just curious why Edgewater Place is not required to paint the business fronts/complex? Citibank looks particularly washed out and needs paint. Thank you.

Thank you for reporting. There are MANY issues with Edgewater that merit further discussion. I had compiled a brief listing of maintenance related items and shared it with the city council last year. I intend to speak with Curtis Banks, our community development direction on this subject in the coming weeks. Please feel free to join me for this meeting if you'd like to help with the discussion.
-Fresh coat of paint
-Fix deteriorating wooden planters/benches
-Replace plastic benches by ones that are aesthetic - improve general seating along the deck so families can enjoy the water view
-Improve lighting fixtures
-Improve/replace wooden deck planks
-Paint the peeling black fence facing the waterfront
-Improve general landscaping
-Improve the boat dock area
-Enforce general cleanliness and property hygiene (e.g UPS stacks boxes behind, Waterfront has kitchen items that extend into the boardwalk)

Amit, When are you hoping to meet? I would like to attend and learn more about what the City can do to force this property owner to change their behavior.
I know they are probably sour that the residents convinced the Council to deny their bid to level it and build a SoCal style strip mall (mostly residential and some commercial). But letting it fall into disrepair and only leasing to businesses that add no variety to our town's offers, seems to be their poison pill.

It seems to me that the property owner is trying to do what the Charter Square owner did (and the City Council allowed to happen)... By letting the complex fall into disrepair the owner will eventually lose tenants and come back with a proposal to turn the land into luxury condos (Charter square ended up becoming a school, but originally he lobbied for condos).
The City planners have already overdeveloped this city by allowing all of the new apartments and condos being built all over the city. They claim it was to increase tax revenue but that is a short sighted way to raise revenue as the side effects of overcrowding a city that was designed for ~30k people are felt every day when I sit in traffic on Hillsdale trying to get on or off of 101.
As citizens of FC we need to stand strong and insist that Edgewater stay a retail complex. That is already one of our most crowded intersections, so imagine if 200 families occupied new apartment buildings in that location.
The City Council better do their job and protect one of the last (and most unique) original retail complexes in this planned community. If not we need to vote them out and put in people who will maintain and enforce the original vision of this city, which in my opinion is (was?) the best suburb in the whole Bay Area. I've lived here since 1976, and in the last 10 years or so we've started to go in the wrong direction, deviating from Foster's vision and allowing way to many apartments and condos to be built.
So, City Officials, do your job and make sure that Edgewater is maintained properly. Don't let the owner manipulate you into allowing another condo/apartment complex. Hold strong or we will replace you with people that will.

Both are acutely aware of the issue. I've met with them as recently as last month to discuss.
Separately, I believe the city intends to get stricter in terms of code enforcement.
As with all civic matters, the key is consistent follow-up. If folks are up for tag-teaming to collectively do a city hall visit, please send me an email at asaini@gmail.com and I'll be happy to coordinate.
