Stop using kids playing as a complaint. they should not be playing in the streets to begin with . ow do you know these people are actually speeding ? Are you a calibrated speed timing device?

Not a complain but fact! When kids are playing and a ball goes into the street and some speeder probably like yourself runs them over or runs over a dog who gets loose like what happened last summer, that is a problem upstanding citizen. You may not have any sense of what the driving laws are, but everyone knows a posted 25mph means 25. It does not take a genius to figure out how what 25mph looks like. When you are pulled over on our street, you'll know why.

I can see you are an antagonistic person who has nothing better to do than be a lawbreaker. Good Luck with your unhappiness in life.

I was actually PASSED once on this road...is this considered a short-cut road or do you think these are residents?

Pebble Beach is a cut-through road for many people. That is why we need something done. Drive up and down Pebble Beach on an afternoon. Lots of kids on scooters, bikes, etc. I have 3, neighbor has 2, another neighbor has 2, another has 3, all within 5 houses. And all under 10 yrs. old.

Some people treat PBL like it's their own personal motor speedway, and the people that blow thru the stop signs are not just people using it as a cut-thru, but _residents_, including police cars, vehicles for a local landscaping business, a catering van, and the guy that delivers the Phila Inquirer in the mornings. Have these people no respect for the right of their neighbors to be safe walking down the street in their own neighborhood? Have they no respect for the safety of our children and pets? No respect even for the laws of our community? How come they get special rights to disregard the law and to endanger everyone else? Where are their morals? Ethics? Scruples?

I don't think so. I'm sick and tired of people interfering in law and place it on the children! The law is clear if people are speeding that is an indication the speed limit is to be RAISED not lowered!  By law it should be set at the 80 percentile!

Period!

Your kids have no business in the street! They are not relevant because if they are in the street it's is due to your negligence!

The road is not a playground! Stop punishing us just because "you don't like it". it isn't dangerous it's clear that if the majority of people are going X speed than that is the proper speed limit on the road and it's the freaking law.

My children are not in the street. My children play in the yard while I watch them. If a ball goes near the street, I retrieve it. With reckless speeders traveling through this residential neighborhood it is dangerous for all people and motorists. At the speed some motorists are driving and answering their cell phones, and texting, slower is safer in a residential area and that is all there is to it!

So your doing the right thing and keeping your kids off the street. I assume you agree that all parents should keep kids out if the street. Good that takes that off the table.

I've searched the blotter and see zero, no accidents in the past on that street and certaintly ZERO injuries or deaths on that street ever!

So empirically there is no proof the street is dangerous. However there is imperical data that shows the safest speed is that which the 80 percentile drives!! The studies have been done ad nosium! It is why nearly every state in the union and the federal highway safety board agrees that is what the posted speed limit should be! If 80 percent drive at that speed then that's what the speed limit should be. In my life I haven't seen very many roads where 25 mph is driven by anywhere near 80 percentile when unimpeded!

If people are driving at that rate there is no problem. This texting cellphone nonsense people keep quoting is just that! Studies show that cell phones only barely significantly increased accidents and at the same rate that radios introduced into cars did! Now cellphone do not significantly increase accidents at all, in fact both fatal and all accident counts are lower now than anytime in the past three decades in both numbers and rate!!! You can find this information from the NTSB website where accident numbers and fatality numbers are readily available. Texting is significantly increasing accident counts right now but only to the same extent as cell phones initially did which was the same as radio introduction into vehicles! The facts do not support this nonsense! Experts agree that the human brain adapts to these new stimuli the sane way. As the technology is learned and adapted more into mainstream society that the capabilities of humans adjust. It's no different than learning to drive for the first time, you stink at it! After time you become proficient!

No one advocates that one should drive distracted but this Blame it on "x" mentality holds no water. The number one cited reason for accidents is not speed at all and the number one cited reason has been the same throughout all records! VISIBiLITY!

NHTSA.Gov. NTSB.gov. you'll have to root around some PDFs do a search for 85 percentile. also while you're there investigate how MVAs have dropped. We know human behavior now artificially low speed limits make people ignore speed limits! They increase accidents by 2-9%

Drivers still speed up and down the road. There was a traffic radar enforcement posted on the road and then nothing happened after that. We tried to be proactive and slow it down but it looks like a fruitless effort. I would just like a patrol car to sit at the stop sign at Pebble Beach and Julie and see all of the speed racers going through the stop sign between 4-6pm. Our taxes may actually stay the same next year they could collect so much in ticket fines...

Might as well give up on this one. People blow through the stop sign at Julie and Pebble Beach. We had the speed reader posted in the summer. But they put it too far down the road. No police presence EVER in the area between the 4-6pm hours. I guess it is time that we get our whole block to attend meetings, start writing down license plate numbers, make and models, and turn that in to the police. Maybe I can even point my surveillence camera out to the street.

Ted, I agree that people shouldn't let their kids play in the street -- most of the kids that play on PBL, Julie, Pinehurst, Michael, etc, are NOT supervised by an adult -- and that's messed up. People need to have some ACTIVE responsibilities for their kids the way that we do at our house.

I also agree with NoName that it would be helpful if you provided an actual reference to the law you keep harping on about.

The point is that the speed limit is 25-not 45 and 50 mph. I am guessing you do not live on this street. And a STOP sign means stop, not slow down to 25mph and breeze through. And the kids who are playing in the street ARE supervised because I am there with them.

We see the police patrolling at 12 noon during the day. thanks-but can we see you patrolling at 4-6pm??
Just last week we saw a gray Monte Carlo-who lives on Pebble Beach-speed down the street going at least 50-blow the stop sign, and keep going. Nice job. The Black Volkswagon driving around last night with 3 teens in it calling people names and driving away-nice.

The problem is that people don't respect the fact that people live here and make their lives here. They'd rather endanger others than take the extra 5 seconds required to stop at a stop sign. I've even seen the COPS run the stop signs. Even the guy down the street who is a known bible-thumper doesn't think Jesus would mind him running the signs. Sheesh, it's ridiculous.

Well-the speeding continues along Pebble Beach. The gray Malibu who is a resident of Pebble Beach speed up and down-blazing through stop signs like it is her personal racetrack. The the silver toyota, on and on I can go about these reckless drivers. And the police will not set up in driveways because they cannot go on personal property-even with permission. Just waiting for another dog to get run over or a child to get hit.

Heck, I've even seen police blow through the stopsigns on PBL. Ridiculous.
