I heard that reporting the number on the pole sometimes helps. You should also make sure that the department you are trying to reach is actually receiving emails on your issue. In some cases, their watch area might have been created after you reported this or you may be outside their watch area.
Is DPW responsible for the streetlights? Does anyone happen to know?
I'm not sure exactly who to call but someone does. Try calling the Westville LCI Specialist, Elaine Braffman, at 946-7835. Since this is a public safety issue try coming to the Community Management Team Meeting this Wednesday at 6:30 pm at the Valley Street Substation or e-mail westvillewesthillscmt@gmail.com. Someone knows how to get this done.
There are multiple ways to report a streetlight out; Web 311 New Haven website: http://www.cityofnewhaven.com/Ask/index.asp, calling UI (it's one of their phone menu items), and I believe the New Haven blue pages of the phone book also has a listing dedicated to street lights under Miscellaneous Services: 931-6325. Note: it takes a while to get them fixed, usually.
Is this true (that your dept is responsible for fixing streetlights and that you won't fix them one at a time)? A half-block from here, I was mugged at gunpoint last fall under a streetlight that had been dead for three years. (It got fixed two days later, courtesy of Rob Smuts.) This is a serious public safety issue. Please respond & let us know what's going on.
I called the number below, and the light in front of my house was fixed within two days.

Thanks for the information, NP. I just called it in to a very friendly guy in the engineering department, who thanked me for calling! We'll see what happens ...

They will not come out unless a bunch of lights are out in a neighborhood.

I agree. Maybe getting more people to report that they want the light swapped out will help stress the point.
