Description

Now that it's warm out, the Mr. Ding-a-ling ice cream trucks are back and they are louder than ever. Lately a truck is parking near the playground in Washington Park for 30-60 minutes or more at a time. The music is so loud it can be heard on the Madison Ave side of the park. It plays constantly. Everyone in the park and along State Street and the cross streets can hear it. Turkey in the Straw and She'll Be Comin' Round the Mountain over and over and over again. It's like torture. Can they turn it down? Or go back to occasionally ringing a bell?

It is occurring between 5 and 7:30pm, depending on the day. The truck will park by the playground for a while, then move to just before the light on the road at the north end of the parade grounds/dog park. Then circle and return to the playground. Thank you!

Yes, too loud. And too loud for too long in one place. Yesterday the truck drove down Englewood around 7pm, turned around to come back up and then had to sit for the light to change. I was standing on State Street doing yard work and it was too loud.

Totally agree. I am going insane. We cannot escape and our windows are not yet open. Also, equally disturbing ...the loud music booming from cars. Too much, too loud, too long.

I agree with the loud music from cars being annoying but at least they keep driving and are gone. Mr Dingaling is like a social experiment in torture. It never ends!

Yes! It would be fine if he played it for a couple minutes and then stopped, if he's just going to sit in one spot for awhile. But the truck just stops at a spot, sits there for a long time, and plays the song so loudly over and over again the ENTIRE time he is sitting there.

"hello?" ( If you don't get that, you haven't suffered enough of the ice cream truck torture yet). He's there pretty nuch all day on the weekends as well. Surely this just drives people out of the playground. "We know you're there turn off the damn jingle already". Also he parks blocking traffic, though there's still no lines anywhere so maybe that's ok.

hello??? Mr. Ding a Ling is here throughout the day on weekends and generally at the playground, through the Park and on State Street starting from 3 on, sometimes earlier in the day. Also, lots of litter from the ice cream trucks is left on the ground throughout the park. Very bad on weekends. The park workers do a good job cleaning up and neighborhood people also pick up but it is never ending.

Yes! Wish I had seen this sooner. I live on Madison Ave and we've been enduring this unending tune for 6 hours at a time on the weekends.

Yes, please, please, PLEASE address the Mr. Dingaling issue. The decibel level of the truck loudspeakers is ridiculously loud. I live in the Delaware neighborhood. The volume needs to be tested with a sound pressure level meter. There's no doubt in anyone's mind that they are constantly in violation of city noise ordinances.

SCF: can or should this be escalated from local APD beat officer to something broader? There is more than one truck in more than one area and they are all problematic.

I was surprised to hear ice cream trucks exist today. I thought their is a smart phone app for that, which put them out of business. Hmmm.

Mr. Ding a Ling is too loud and if the weather is good the truck starts coming around at 11:30 am and plants itself next to the playground. It is very disruptive and overwhelms any hope of peace. Gratefully, this rainy weather has given us some quietude.

9 out of 10 Mr. Ding a Lings are child offenders too. They should be banned from playgrounds. They are in other states.

Guessing we're not going to actually do anything about this, like many other issues involving Washington Park. But to add to the complaint, as well as the noise issue, there are signs on the park roads saying no access for commercial vehicles, maybe it's just me but I would assume an Ice Cream truck is a commercial vehicle? They also stop right in front of the "No Stopping" sign blocking traffic. What's the point of having signs if they are completely ignored on a daily basis?

It's extremely obnoxious, with the amplified music, the barking dog noise, the whistle blowing noise and the woman's amplified voice saying "Hellooo" in what sound like a sarcastic voice to me...

I agree with all of these complaints about My Ding a Ling Ice Cream Truck. The recording ('helloooo') totally sounds condescending, and it's WAY too loud.
