Description
I am writing to express concern about the routine blocking of the bicycle path on the east side of Broadway between 51st Street and Broadway Terrace.
I ride my bicycle on that section of Broadway as part of my daily commute to and from work. On a daily basis, the designated bicycle path is completely blocked by the Storer San Francisco buses that are parked and waiting to shuttle CCA students to the San Francisco campus. This creates a dangerous situation where I must navigate the automobile lanes during busy commute times. I have asked the bus drivers to park the buses in a way that does not block the bicycle lane, and they have said that there are different bus drivers daily, so that my direct communication with the drivers would not be effective as a long term solution.
I am a responsible cyclist, respecting the rules of the road (I do not ride on the sidewalk or in any pedestrian zones), and wear bright lights and reflective gear. However, the roadways are still dangerous. Please help by ensuring that the designated bicycle zones we have in place, especially on busy corridors, are respected (i.e. the bicycle lane in this case).
I have written to California College of the Arts, imploring them to find an alternate parking practice for your large buses that does not impede the small and very important bicycle lane on Broadway. I have not received a response.
Thank you for your attention to this very important issue.
