This stretch of Peal Street from the back of SOM to Orange Street has been talked about for a long time. I agree that it's an accident waiting to happen. My understanding is that it's New Haven Lawn Club property where you mark a possible proposed sidewalk which makes it problematic. Another idea that's been floated over the years is to experiment with the "woonerf" concept for this street. This would explicitly make this small stretch of road shared EQUALLY by pedestrians, cyclists, and motor vehicles. If there was ever a stretch of road in New Haven to try something new and innovative, this would be a perfect place to at least try out the woonerf concept.
