Description
I have an abstract legal question about signage for hours of enforcement on NH parking meters. Maybe someone out there knows about this! Does the meter and/or sign need to clearly and explicitly specify the hours of enforcement on the meters? I parked on High Street, at a meter that says: "8 a.m.-5 p.m 2HR Limit No Limit After 5 p.m." and the sign says: "2 Hour Limit 8 a.m.-5 p.m. No Time Limit 5 p.m.-9 p.m." I parked at 5:15 and after checking both meter and sign did not fully absorb the implicit message that meters were still checked past 5 p.m. I realize that I might have *inferred* from the clues that the meter was enforced until 9 p.m., but it nowhere does it say this. Does anyone know the fine points of the law on this question? I guess I wonder why the city would choose not to state the rule clearly and explicitly. And I'm trying to figure out whether it's worthwhile to contest violation liability. (I just lost the initial appeal, which didn't apparently didn't read my reason b/c it cited as the reason for denial that car was there > 2 hours before 5 p.m. I parked at 5:15 p.m. and got the ticket at 6:15) Thanks!

If you parked at 5.15 and got a ticket at 6.15 what that says to me is that you didn't feed the meter enough money, which would, yes, be on you, and not really a contestable matter, as I see it, unless I'm missing something.

I guess I know a slew of people ran into trouble when the time frame changed; it used to be the metered parking ended at 7 p.m., and then it went to 9, and there was a hullabaloo. You're the first person I've heard tell of in quite some time who has run into this as a problem.
