Thank you for contacting UDOT. Northbound is programmed to get at least 79 of the 150 second cycle length, about 53%. Data from the signal shows that 75% of northbound traffic arrives when the signal is green in the morning signal timing plans. To narrow our effort, please provide the information about where you are coming from. Did you turn left or right onto Bangerter at 3500 S? Or from further south? It looks like the main group of vehicles, we call it a platoon, arrives on green NB at 3100 S. Also, the green time on all the other movements is being used, it is difficult to find additional time to give to NB without causing problems with these movements.

Thank you for your response! I am coming from 7000 South, so I would have been on Bangerter for a while at this point. I put in a request for the light at 5400 South as well, which always seems to get very delayed as of late (didn't used to be this way). In the past, I could ride pretty smooth from 7000 South to 3500 So. The light at 3500 South usually takes me 2, sometimes 3, rotations before I make it through, which is understandable because it is a busy intersection, but then I ALWAYS get stopped at 3100, sometimes for multiple rotations.

I realize now that I meant to set the intersection to the light at 3100 South and Bangerter (not 3500 South). Can you take a look at that light? 3500 South has actually been pretty good over the past few months, but I can't understand why I always get stopped so far back on 3100 South. It seems there should not be much traffic going east/westbound on 3100 South, so north/southbound should move more freely.

Apologies for the delay - it looks like we missed the update on this ticket. It looks like we had a problem a few weeks ago with detection in the EB/WB direction that may have caused problems with the NB/SB movement. These problems look to have been resolved; are you still experiencing an issue with this signal? According to our metrics, more than 75% of all traffic is arriving on a green light at this intersection between 6:00 AM and 9:00 AM.

Sorry, I noted in my last comment that I mean to mark the intersection at 3100 South and Bangerter during the morning rush hour. I am still seeing the delays there. 3500 South seems much better than before. If possible, though, could you look at the 5400 South light? It's the worst light ever since the construction finished (northbound during morning rush and southbound during afternoon rush).

Our timing group has taken a look at these intersections and found a few things. The 5400 S intersection has undergone some changes while they prepare to rebuild this location into a freeway-style interchange. This has reduced the available time for the northbound movement by about 20-25 seconds, causing extra delay. The intersections north of there (especially at 3100 S ) are sometimes not lining up due to heavy traffic that isn't able to fully clear every cycle.
