Description
Arlington st between Irving and Waushakum . 4 times now our vehicle has been struck while parked. 3 times it was a hit and run 1 time the person called the police. The road is too narrow for 2 full lanes of travel a 1 lane of parking. We have a dozen commercial vehicles parking overnight and oversized vehicles including emergency vehicles driving down the street and the road becomes too narrow and parked vehicles get damaged. There is a park on this street where kids play and with the obstructed view due to parked commercial vehicles some day a child is going to get hurt. Something needs to be done

Three questions have been asked on this thread.
(1) In regards to speed limit signage. Chapter 90 Section 17 of the Massachusetts General Laws states: No person operating a motor vehicle on any way shall run it at a rate of speed greater than is reasonable and proper, having regard to traffic and the use of the way and the safety of the public. Unless a way is otherwise posted in accordance with the provisions of section eighteen, it shall be prima facie evidence of a rate of speed greater than is reasonable and proper as aforesaid (1) … (3) inside a thickly settled or business district at a rate of speed exceeding thirty miles per hour for a distance of one-eighth of a mile…Since Alexander Street is un-posted, the above law would apply. Since there is not a specific speed regulation associated with Alexander Street, the black lettering on white background speed limit sign cannot be installed.
(2) In the Current Town’s Traffic Rules and Orders it states under Article V. Stopping, Standing, Parking in Section 10. All Night Commercial Vehicle Parking Prohibited. No driver shall park or stand any commercial vehicle or trailer having a capacity of one (1) ton or over for more than one (1) hours between 12:01Am and 8:00AM of any day, or at any time on Sunday, on any part of any street, way, highway, road or parking of the Town where parking or standing of a vehicle is not otherwise prohibited, provided that this regulation shall not apply during the actual loading and unloading of materials. From the issue you have posted, this would be a police enforcement matter, and they would need to be contacted.
(3) If you would like to create a specific type of parking restriction on Alexander Street it would need to go before the Traffic and Roadway Safety Committee. They are an advisory committee to the board of selectmen and discuss topics such as this. Typically meetings are held the second Wednesday of each month at 7PM in Town Hall. You do not need to attend these meetings, but the Committee does like to hear from the proponent before making these decisions. If you would like to know more information about getting on the agenda, please send an email to awk@framinghamma.gov
