The neighborhood has been trying to get this Street repaired since 1989! The Street is very narrow making it difficult for 2 cars to pass safely.There are large open Gutters with Driveway entrances making it dangerous when 2 cars try to pass. A car can hit a driveway entrance and severely damage there front suspension. This has happened often. It has only partial sidewalks causing pedestrians to walk on the Street. We have had nothing but excuses from the City. The IJ published an article Nov 23 2003 concerning this issue.(See attached). This issue has gone on far to long.

This road is hazardous and way overdue for an overhaul which was last promised and bidded in 2011. Now it's 2013 and there's still no plan for improvement. Action needs to be taken on this roadway!

The street seems to be the original paving and cross section design. The road has simply been patched multiple times. Crack/Seal and hand-tamping asphalt in potholes is a short-term fix, and also VERY expensive when used in the long-term compared to a full repave. I have a very low suspension on my car, and have trouble passing cars coming the other direction, for fear of severely damaging my bumper, undercarriage, etcetera. This is a great effort, because at least now it will be documented by local residents having to deal with it. The next time someone incurs car damage, the city will be liable, and this will serve as "Exhibit A". Should legal action against the city be pursued for damages, a viable defense will be much harder to come by.

Bungalow Avenue from La Loma Ct to Woodland Ave is in severe disrepair! The large, deep, open gutters are very dangerous. Large potholes, and numerous cracks have been fixed on a temporary basis way too many times. This street looks like something you would see in a third world country NOT what you would want or expect in San Rafael, CA. I pay very high taxes and do not feel that I am well served by such a road. Please get this road fixed correctly and permanently once an for all!

We are still trying to get the City to act on this issue. It is going on 30 years and they do nothing but give us excuses. This street is a block from two schools and 2 blocks from a third. This is a disgrace to the people in the neighborhood. The City just put in new sidewalks on Lindaro which already had sidewalks but will not put sidewalks on Bungalow which has only partial sidewalks. Does this make any sense?

HI Don - I heard back from the City Manager and she forwarded me the following information from DPW:

DPW is planning to do the CIP report and presentation at the end of February. They will present the following for Bungalow:
- Planning and utility coordination in FY 2015/2016. Besides the 30% design we need to work with utilities to ask them to lower their facilities. That may throw us of our schedule. PG&E and AT&T are notorious delay these projects.
- Design and prepare plans and Specs and bid in FY2016/17
- Construct in 2017/2018 with a caveat that our street resurfacing project will shrink significantly (-25%) in order to fund this construction. Council will need to approve this.

So, as you can see from the above, there are still many unknowns (starting with the information that the City needs to get from the utilities). I suggest that you email the Council prior to the CIP meeting and present your concerns about Bungalow. If you don't already, I recommend subscribing to the City Manager's blog, the Snapshot, as she gives a heads up as to what is on the agenda for each Council meeting. If the Council will be discussing the CIP in February, it would be at the 2/17 meeting (which is a Tuesday due to the holiday).

Fellow San Rafael residents,
Apparently reports on SeeClickFix are not getting sent to the right people in city and county DPWs or even to someone who can triage and direct them.
I don't know how to get this set up. Anyone have ideas?

Hi Don,
The primary purpose of SeeClickFix is so that people can report issues directly to the departments for public works or other city and county staff who will then take care of the issue. It doesn't make sense for us to even use this app if we also have to send an email somewhere else.
The city of San Rafael and the county can contact SeeClickFix and make sure that they are the recipients for issues left using this app. I believe they are aware of it, and probably think it is difficult, but I believe it is incredibly simple. They just have to contact SeeClickFix and get their email addresses put as the recipients for these issues.

Still waiting for the City to act on this issue. It is unbelievable that the City can continue to ignore this issue. It is a dangerous Street and is within two blocks of three Schools. The City should be ashamed.
