Description
In the morning, the turns this light takes lead to a very uneven flow of traffic. Southbound cars on Blue Barns Road go through the light and then clog up 146/Balltown Road. When the green arrow comes for traffic turning left from 146 onto Balltown Road, there is only space for a few cars to go because the road is so congested due to the construction at the Rexford Bridge. The timing lines up so that the southbound traffic goes and takes up all of the available lane space, leaving many cars stuck on 146 much longer. If the green arrow were extended or the light turns shifted temporarily during construction, traffic would flow much more easily.

I reported this issue to NYSDOT Region 1 via email. After studying it they replied:
"We initiated a study in response to your September 11, 2017 email that included reviewing three years, eight months of collision data, checking the operation of traffic signal, and observing the flow of traffic through the intersection.
The collision data did not reveal a pattern of accidents at this intersection. However, a site visit by an engineer from our office revealed that the time allocated to the left turn arrow was too short to effectively reduce the left turning queue from Route 146 Westbound to Route 146 (Balltown Road) Southbound. Therefore, our Traffic Signal Maintenance Crew increased the green time for the left turn arrow. An engineer followed up with a site visit on September 26, 2017 and confirmed the increased left turn arrow time had been effective.
We appreciate your input and thank you for your interest in traffic safety."
I am closing the issue.
