This is my home. This car is my next door neighbors car using the front of my home as their parking lot. Their driveway is empty, there are additional parking pads to use and they have a garage. Why do I have to look at this car everyday? This is not their parking lot. Please help with this.

Very common in Holly Mill (S. Canton). Vehicles parked on sidewalk, pulled up on grass and hanging out of driveways. PD can't do much and HOA in Holly Mill uses Douglas Property Management which can't find it's rear end with both hands.

It’s been a year since we filed our complaint. Are we going to get signs or is there something else we can do? There is a big truck parked up in the grass now which seems to be their new parking place. There are plenty of parking pads and their driveway only has one car in it. This is an entrance to a circle so every time I back out I can’t see around it. Help? Thank you

JLM you are fighting a losing battle on this issue. It is common all over and for the 2 1/2 yrs I have been in Holly Mill (S Canton) it has gone on with vehicles parking ON the sidewalk, grass etc. The Chief of Police isn't going to get involved and the HOA at least Douglas Property Management, is useless.

Just FYI: if they actually park on the street and their wheels are on the pavement it is legal parking as long as they don't block your driveway, park facing the wrong way or park to close to the corner or in front of a fire plus. Yes it is a bottleneck for traffic but it is legal and the PD/City will not get involved.

Here is a minor suggestion, order a pad of stickers with some lettering saying that the vehicle is parked illegally and put one on the offending car's window. It has no real force of law but 'might' get the owner's attention. I have some and now and then use one.

Thanks Davey. So frustrating. Makes the property look like garbage. So this truck and all their other cars when parked there are facing the wrong way. Thanks for that tip.

Thank you for reaching out to me with your inquiry.  In short, as you have already identified, a Home Owner's Association (HOA) truly cannot enforce City Ordinances or State Law as it relates to parking on City public streets.  In my experience, I know of HOA's that have sent letters to residence in their communities asking that homeowners do not park on sidewalks, block driveways, intersections or fire hydrants with good results.  With that said, we are very familiar with the dynamics of many of our neighborhoods not having enough parking in driveways because of residential designs or City infrastructure is older and structurally will not allow for homeowners to park in their driveway, if they have one at all.  

Additionally, when we receive a complaint from a community, we will dispatch our Officers to extra patrol neighborhoods to detect on street parking violations to include; parking left wheel to curb, blocking of sidewalks, fire hydrants, intersections or access for emergency vehicles which equates to nintey-eight (98) inches of clearance. Officers will first make contact with the vehicle owner to educate first as to the ordinance or state law and then subsequently, if we detect another violation, we will then issue a citation.

Thank you for reaching out to me with this information.  I will direct our Officers to increase their patrols in the area in order to detect and deter the violations of parking on a sidewalk, left wheels to curb, obstructing an intersection, emergency vehicles or blocking a fire hydrant.  Our goal will be to educate citizens who live in the community as to the violations upon initial law enforcement contact and then handle accordingly with enforcement if warnings for said violations are not adhered to.

How about some tickets?  Probably the City can use the $ and it might keep someone from getting run over when they go out in the street to go around the cars.

I complained to the HOA who said they would send a letter, this was last Monday, either the mail is real slow or the homeowners don't care.
