Apologies for the lack of response to this SeeClickFix. I knew the area was studied recently for this request, and I thought everyone was responded to.
Based on our review, we do not recommend changing the phasing at this intersection. The following factors are the reasons for this decision:
• The alignment of the eastbound and westbound left turn lanes creates a sight line restriction, particularly if there is a high profile vehicle is in the opposing left-turn lane.
• The left-turning vehicle must cross three thru lanes and a turn lane to clear the intersection.
• Our review showed that there is very little delay to an westbound left-turning vehicle and the westbound left-turns typically cleared within a single signal cycle.
• There is a fire station with frequent response calls just to the south of the intersection.
• US 19 is just to the west of the intersection. Any incident at West Lake Road would cause severe impacts to traffic flow in this area.
As a result of our study, we are reviewing the potential to lengthen the westbound left turn lane to allow motorists to queue and release in a more efficient manner.
