New Haven has enough problems, now we have to deal with a turkey strutting around our public recreational areas? I don't know if turkeys bite but this one has a threatening look, I have seen it up close only for a short time because I quickly ran away. This bird is a nightmare waiting to happen.

joey that is a very irresponsible attitude. If you look closely at the picture you can see sharp claws (technical term is "talons") on the bird's feet. There is a theory that birds are descended from dinosaurs. I don't know if you've seen the movie Jurassic Park but it is very informative about a situation where dinosaurs run amok in a park. Our city is literally becoming Jurassic Park 2 and we cannot wait for the problem to "take care of itself".

Jurassic Park 2 wasn't really a good movie. The first one was way better.

here is a list of some of the creatures I have seen in my backyard in the Heights:
5 deer at one time
2 coyotes
1 woodchuck
1 too-tame skunk
racoons
1 ugly possum
woodpeckers-2 kinds
1 bird of prey eating something gnarly, probably was an osprey
1 baby bear was down the street, but I missed him
the rest are less interesting...

I have a pack of turkeys that live in my neighborhood in West haven and they are not aggressive at all. I walk my dog through my neighborhood everyday, even by the Turkeys and they do not bother my dog nor does my dog bother them. I think living in the city is getting to some people.

Animal Control isn't too worried about this guy. I saw him today, and he seemed very pleasant and peaceful.

I wouldn't be to worried about him, I have seen them on several occasions in my mother in laws yard on Stevenson Rd. and they don't bother anybody.

Turkeys do NOT have talons. Only birds of prey have talons, turkeys have claws. They are mellow and should not be feared. gobble gobble!

If anything needs to be removed from it's habitat let it be the human species: the most dangerous and destructive creatures known to man.

wife and i were sitting in a car park behind the bandstand and saw the bird i had my camera and didnt take a picture but i do have pics. of a flock of turkeys on bull hill la. in west haven is flock the right word

If you're scared of a Turkey, you need to grow a pair.

I've seen three wild turkeys near the Grove Street Cemetery and new University Health Center construction site in the past few days - all mid-day sightings. It is a bit disconcerting.

They don't seem to be too afraid of humans, and can run very quickly, so don't forget to look both ways when you cross the street.

Mark you seem to be a big fan of seeclickfix and have some go advice/words of wisdom but nothing here is disconcerting. Turkeys are not viscous animals; have you ever heard of a turkey attack? Dave that flock comes through my neighborhood all the time with no incidents. Please people stop this insanity.

look I am no bird scientist but I have almost 30 years experience in bird viewing. I don't care what your dictionary says because I have met this bird and immediately I saw it had long sharp talons with sharp points and also sharp edges for puncturing/cutting. I don't know but maybe this turkey has been sharpening its claws against a rock? who can tell with this crazy bird. all I know is that while City hall sits on its thumbs there is a turkey is on the green WITH TALONS and it spells disaster to us, the CITIZENS. maybe you are ok with a threatening bird hanging around but I am not.

For the last time, turkeys are not dangerous or predatory.

When will City Hall do something about all the dangerous HUMANS strutting around this town? I see them littering with no remorse, pouring hazardous chemicals into the ground, polluting the air, threatening other members of their species with speeding and reckless driving, and settling their minor disputes with firearms. Also they have talons.
