Thanks David - this is all very helpful and relevant information. The root graft issue is particularly important on the New Haven Green, where the Elms are planted close together. I think you are right that the other three trees I mentioned are beyond saving, unfortunately.I hope the city acts on this quickly.

Please be persistent in your reports to the Parks Dept. There is a Landscape Architect there you could reach out to directly, and an arborist with the Care of Trees [contracted for tree work on the Green] that might answer your questions directly. Please report back what you find out.

While this site is easy, you have not yet had a response from any agency. I will also try. The more of us that do this the better the prospect of getting status information. Thank you a!

How can I get on to this persons site where I can have something done for a tree in my area where I consistently put notes in and I don't get any comments back I have the arborist come out too good a tree said that something would be done with it this is going on years damage to car's damage to properties and one post goes up about an elm tree and all the sudden is being pushed to the top of the agenda I would like to know who I need to contact personally to get something done about this tree before somebody walks underneath it and have a big Branch fell on top of their head where this tree is dead

Thanks for acknowledging my report. I hope that in cases of possible Dutch Elm Disease it will not take "months or years" for the city to take action, as that would almost certainly result in the loss of many more Elms. Even if there is a backlog of work, pruning and/or removal of infected Elm trees has to happen immediately in order to be effective in preventing the spread of the disease. As of early September, nothing has been done and almost half of the tree is showing signs of infection. It is now probably too late to save the tree.

The tree has now been removed, over 12 months after it was first reported. Please monitor adjacent trees for infection.

Removal was completed.
