Motorists pull over in front of 577 Quinnipiac Ave to use drugs. I'm watching people stick needles in their arms on a regular basis. Happening in broad daylight. Police won't respond when I call.

What?! This is OUTRAGEOUS! NHPD, please do something!
To the poster of this problem, you should ask specifically for Lt. Jeff Hoffman, our area's main cop. Try leaving him a msg at the East Shore Station. 946-7163. I have had good luck working w/ him. Get a license plate # and as much description as possible. Get your neighbors to call as well. Also, you can file an anonymous drug tip form via mail that you can download as a pdf from the NHPD website here: http://www.cityofnewhaven.com/Police/Forms.asp . Lastly, you should speak to your Alderman, who is either Alex Rhodeen or Maureen Quinn, most likely.

I should amend my original post to say that I have called the police, reported the issue and plate numbers, but there hasn't been any follow-up by NHPD. I have left phone numbers, and said that I'd like to speak with an officer.
My frustration isn't entirely with the Police though. If I happen to catch the activity in progress, I'm not sure how quickly they can respond.
That's not to say that the police couldn't do better. I want to see stricter enforcement of the laws. Weeks back two cars stopped in traffic on Q ave (towards Rt. 80) They parked in traffic, and the passengers had a fight. it was 2:30 a.m, and everyone in the neighborhood called it in.
When the police responded they let them drive off. I saw this, and approached the Police. The Police claimed the people were just lost, and looking for the highway. One cop commented "a little alcohol and stupidity never hurt anybody." Although all these citizens called in a brawl to 911, and the Police smelled alcohol, they let these offenders off.

I find the following phrase gets the police to arrive.
"If I don't see a police officer in five minutes I am going to deal with this myself."
You can also try the State Police, bright flashlights, camera flashes, etc...

Forgot to mention; this activity continues down the empty side of the street from the oyster farm entrance all the way to Oxford street.
I am considering mounting a camera viewing my stretch of the street. Participation from other homes in this area would perhaps make it more effective. Anybody interested is welcome to contact me. d62@snet.net
