Description
Lewis Tree Service is "trimming" the trees right now for PS&G, they are actually butchering the trees. The employees are not arborists. They are also cutting power lines in the process. They are not being supervised. The canopy that the trees provide is also being affected. The trees need to be trimmed to secure power lines but these guys are doing a terrible job!

Enough. This has to end. We need a meeting of all the Heights residents who are concerned about this so we can determine our next steps. I posted about this weeks ago and received a call from Ryan Metz, an arborist with the city, who said the city has told these companies to stop stripping trees; the companies clearly don't care.
If you want to be in on this meeting, please e-mail me at aagolem@gmail.com. We'll figure out a time that works for everyone.
People, we're going to make them pay.

Aaron, did Ryan share how the city intends to control the contractors? If the city has actually given direction to the tree trimmers and they are not following that direction there needs to be a consequence. The city needs to step in and enforce their direction.
It seems like the head of the Park Maintenance is responsible for trimming trees. That person is Sammy Ocasio, Director (201) 547-4449.
Here is the ordinance:
There is hereby created within the Department of Public Works a Division of Park Maintenance, the Director of which shall be the Director of Park Maintenance.
(1)
Division of Park Maintenance; functions. Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Public Works, the Division of Park Maintenance shall:
(a)
be responsible for planning and maintaining all facilities for recreational purposes offered by the City, which include parks, playgrounds, green space, sitting areas and indoor recreational facilities.
(b)
Be responsible for the trimming of trees on sidewalks.
(c)
Be responsible for the planting of trees within public easement areas.

RRC and Parks & Forestry, both, have contacts for PSE&G in the rare event that we have any issues in the future.
