I-696 and Groesbeck (M-97) are both under MDOT (MI Dept of Transportation) jurisdiction. All freeways and roads beginning with I, M, or US are under MDOT. We contacted MDOT about these signals and have now made an adjustment that should take care of this problem. Please feel free to contact the Road Commission of Macomb County directly at geninfo@rcmcweb.org to bring up any road, sign or signal issues.

As of June 25,2010 the lights are STILL not timed properly. I wonder how many more accidents have to happen there before they realize it is a problem.

I believe MDOT's changes were made around June 28th. I hope that has resolved the issue.

I believe there was another accident within the last few days.

Most accidents are not the fault of the lights, but from drivers who are impatient or not paying attention. I agree the entire intersection is a challenge and the lights have been adjusted many times on both Hayes and Groesbeck. The idea now is to clear the traffic coming off the 696 service drive going east to north Grbk, especially with the bridge construction backing up traffic going north on 94, so people are taking new routes.
