Description
Particularly a problem at night (but also during the day), downhill traffic on Ascot Drive gets confused and flies into the cul de sac at a high rate of speed rather than following Ascot Drive downhill and to the left. This happens several times a day/night!
There are several contributing factors: signage is not visible to downhill traffic (it is on left rather than right & behind parked cars/shrubbery), road striping & reflectors were removed during utility undergrounding and not replaced, street lighting at night - the downhill light is around the curve and not visible. Only the street light in the court is visible which causes drivers to get confused. Neighbors have had their car hit twice by hit and run. Another neighbor had their car totaled and their garage door demolished. I have been nearly hit by cars while walking my dog on several nights.

I also live on Ascot Court, and notice the many drivers- day and night- who drive fast into the cul-de-sac only to realize they have gone the wrong way. Some slowly turn around, a little embarrassed at having made a wrong turn, some back out (which is dangerous- few people are really good at driving in reverse) and otherstry to whip fast u-turns to get out of there fast and back on their way.
They all cause a hazard and have come close to hitting neighbors as well as causing damage to cars and property.
I agree with Beth, that having the striping re done on the road would help immensely- as well as improved lighting. I drive down Ascot myself at night, and often understand why those who are unfarmiliar with the road would have trouble.
These are not big fixes, and they will help to alleviate what could be a very tragic incident.

Yes, this is a dangerous condition which has not been rectified, as reported by neighbors above.
My garage door and my car, parked inside the garage at the time, were 'totaled' by a vehicle that missed the left curve of Ascot Drive and instead drove onto our property at the end of Ascot Court. The driver did not realize he had exited the main road and he said he could not see that he was at the end of a road until it was too late to stop.
On another occasion a vehicle smashed into a large tree to the right of our property at the end of Ascot Court, which appeared to be the only thing that prevented the vehicle from crashing into our house.
I see cars stop at different points in the the cul-de-sac, make a u-turn and exit the court because the driver obviously did not intend to exit Ascot Drive.

Even better signage would help. Please update the status of this report.

I would also like to hear what and when will something be done about this.
Thank you Beth for bringing this to the forefront again.
